-Richard obtained his PhD in vegetation history at the University of Cambridge in 1978. He has held positions in the USA, Ireland, Sweden and Denmark and is currently Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Liverpool, UK. He has authored over 100 papers and book chapters with special focus on studies of local forest dynamics using sediments from small forest hollows.
